From the Rector

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost -- the day when the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples, sending them out into the world to preach the good news of Jesus Christ. That same spirit poured out on the disciples empowers us today. It calls us to preach, to teach, to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world. It gives us strength, a spirit of truth, and leads us to new mission fields. It is especially fitting that we baptize on Pentecost, and I look forward to participating in the baptism of young Elliott Chambas. Please keep the Chambas family in prayer this week.

Just as Pentecost is a fitting day to celebrate baptisms, it is also a fitting day to celebrate new beginnings. One such new beginning is the opening of St. Martin's Preschool. I am pleased to announce that we have hired Bobbie Lindley to be our director. Bobbie is extremely qualified and comes to us with recommendations from parents, teachers and administrators from around the community. Bobbie and her family will be at St. Martin's this Sunday. She officially begins June 1st. A special thank you to our Preschool Committee, and Becky Lumpkin, Michelle McDonnell,Anita Nelam, and Allision Askins, who participated in each interview.

In a final thank you, I want to thank Summers Poteat, Meredith Rashley, Adrian Rashley, and Grace Truluck for participating in our confirmation classes. Yesterday they were confirmed in a beautiful service. As a church, please join me in welcoming them in their adult commitment to Christ. With four more confirmations to go on June 26, with a baptism to come this Sunday, and an exciting beginning for the St. Martin's Preschool in the works, our future looks bright. I believe the Holy Spirit is working all around us and pushing us forward into a new day and new adventures.

In Christ,
Mitch+
