This Week from Mitch

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope and pray that you are well! I also hope you are keeping cool. It's an annual tradition in the South to complain about the heat when it's above 90 and the cold whenever it drops below 54, so I'm logging my annual complaint now. It's hot!!! Someone, please, drive by and give Gordon Thomas a popsicle!

Despite the heat, a lot is happening, so come and play! Below, you will read about parish work days, capital improvement projects, and more. Thank you all for making each event possible.

Over the next few weeks, our 5 PM service will host a summer lay preaching series. Currently, we have three speakers lined up. Our first preacher will be Matthew Butler, a former assistant youth minister here at St. Martin's, who is now a spokesperson for the ACLU. Our second speaker will be our seminarian Adam Steele, whom we sent to seminary last year. Our third speaker will be Beth Chambas. Beth, a mother in our parish, brings a practical perspective of what it means to be a follower of Jesus amidst the hectic nature of life. I am excited to hear all three and look forward to introducing, perhaps, a few more new speakers. Again, our lay preaching series will take place during our 5 PM service.

This Friday, we will host our monthly Welcome Dinner. If you are new and have not been able to attend one, please know that you are still invited. RSVP here. There is room. I'll be cooking in the Commons kitchen for a good part of Friday afternoon. If you are in town, feel free to stop by and chat for a bit. Finally, in summer, our attendance at St. Martin's fluctuates up and down as folks travel. As attendance fluctuates, so does our church income. Please remember St. Martin's in your giving! Every bit helps.

In Christ,

Mitch
