This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Yesterday I did something that sparked some really great memories. I arranged flowers. My grandmother used to arrange flowers for her church, and my mom as well. We have a small family funeral today at St. Martin's, and our volunteers have done so much lately, so I just decided to do it myself. Now my work was not up to the Shari or Mimi level, and I am sure my wife and mom could have offered some helpful pointers, but in my own defense, they look pretty good! I took my time, I prayed, I cut, and snipped. It was fun, and everyone deserves something beautiful at a funeral.
As I finished up, it occurred to me, with Lydia's confirmation approaching, that while I was doing the flowers, I was thinking about a lot of amazing women in my life. In thanksgiving for them, tomorrow I will donate money for flowers, for the upcoming Bishop's visit, and our service of Confirmation and Reception. Do you have a special anniversary or person you might like to do the same for? One simple way you can help make worship for all of our church beautiful is by giving an honorarium to the flower ministry at St. Martin's. Our flower guild is fantastic, and they regularly do a lot with a little. A donation of 50 to 100 dollars for flowers for a Sunday service can truly go a long way.
This morning, as I sip my coffee, I find myself filled with feelings of gratitude for my grandmother, who let me run around churches as a little one while she did the flowers. It was enjoyable to remember, and although this will not be a regular ministry of mine, it was a pleasant offering to make. If you are interested in an honorarium, you can find the link here. If you are interested in joining the Flower Guild, please reach out to Shari Hutchinson. If I can do it, you can do it.
In Christ,
Mitch
