This Week from Alex

Dear Siblings in Christ,

I hope and pray that you are doing well. As the summer is winding down, I find myself scrambling to make sure I am prepared for the upcoming program year. I can only imagine what our parents feel like! The end of summer has approached fiercely and faster than I ever imagined (even though this happens every year!).

While we are all preparing for the school year to start, we can also take a moment to reflect on the amazing summer that we have had. I’ve had such an awesome time seeing our children and youth as campers at Camp Gravatt, the Fireflies game, family bowling, and taking our students on a mission trip to North Carolina. I hope that in the craziness of school being back, we don’t move too quickly past the memories that we have made.

With school starting back, I am so excited to say that on Sunday, August 10, St. Martin’s will be back in full swing! We have Confirmation Classes for youth at 9:15 AM in the Youth Loft, Godly Play and 3•4•5 return in the Commons at 10:30 AM, and EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) returns from 6 - 7:30 PM!

That morning, we will also have our Backpack Blessing at the 10:30 AM service. Following the service, we will have SnoBalls on the Point, and a Playground Picnic in the Garden Room for all families to join for lunch and fellowship!

That evening, from 6 - 7:30 PM, we will have an EYC Tailgate on the Point! All youth & their families (yes, younger siblings are welcome!), are invited to join us for an evening of grilling out & playing yard games. At this EYC, parents can meet & mingle with volunteers and other parents. We will provide the main dish of hotdogs and hamburgers, but parents are asked to back up to the Point (think Trunk-or-Treat style) and bring a side dish to share! In classic EYC fashion, the night will end with Compline.

I hope that everyone is as excited as I am to embark on a new program year at St. Martin’s. I am praying for our children, youth, and families, and am looking forward to seeing how God moves this year!

In Christ,

Alex Cato
