This Week from Mitch

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The beginning of a new program year is a time mixed with quiet anticipation, busyness, and stress. On the surface, you could drive by St. Martin's and think, "This week, there is not much going on," or "There are not as many cars out front as usual, nor are there as many in the parking lot." Both statements are true. That said, if you were to come in, you would find Jim laying out this e-messenger and designing promotional materials, Caitlyn writing her curriculum for this year's Sunday School, and the office prepping for the arrival of Aaron, our new organist. On top of this, we are beginning to plan for stewardship and our upcoming capital campaign, all while we look for new volunteers to help in the ongoing mission and ministry of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields. In other words, while this week appears slower than most, things are as busy as usual, and thank God they are.

Really and truly, thank God! My friends, it is such a privilege and blessing to serve a busy church. To serve a church that invites people to plug in to a wide range of ministries, to serve a church where there is always foot traffic, always interruptions, and always movement. It's such a privilege to serve a busy church, because busy churches are communities that are alive, and alive is what we are! It's a blessing, and I hope as we begin to roll out the plans for the year, you will find a place to plug in, for if we are alive, as the saying goes, then we are alive in the Lord! Thank you all for giving life to this place.
